The Sub-Mariner was the child of an American ship captain and Fen, an Atlantean woman. The pair married, but when American ships blasted through the ice sheets of the Arctic and destroy most of Fen's people, she deserts the captain and raises her son, Namor, to hate surface dwellers. So when he turns twenty, he goes on a rampage against surface dwellers. But eventually he mellowed and began fighting the Axis powers for the Allies, teaming up with Captain America and the Human Torch. In 1948 he gained a female companion, Namora. He was also a member of the All-Winners Squad. Sub-Mariner has super-strength, can fly via the wings on his ankles, and can live underwater indefinitely. He also possesses a telepathic link with marine life. His physical attributes decline when out of water.

Namora, a.k.a. Aquaria Nautica Neptunia, is the cousin of Namor the Sub-Mariner. She is the only survivor of a human attack, via a submarine, on Namor's kingdom. When they are finally reunited she follows his model and begins fighting crime. She is 1/2 human 1/2 Atlantean , with super-strength and the ability to live underwater indefinitely. Her skin was originally blue, but faded to a Caucasian tone, when asked about this, her father revealed her half human heritage.

Nelvana is a goddess, the daughter of King Koliak and the sworn protector of the "Eskimos." She uses her powers to fight against the enemies of the "Eskimos," which range from the "Ether People" to the Axis powers. She is aided by her brother Tanero. She can disguise herself as a mortal, travel at super-speeds "along a giant ray of the Aurora Borealis", call upon Northern Lights' other powers (e.g. Koliak's ray: melting, disrupt radio communications) control the weather, and become invisible.

Tom Corbet, a member of the French Foreign Legion, is ordered by his cruel Lieutenant to cross the unforgiving desert with his troop and attack the savage Mbangi tribe. Corbet is the only survivor of the trek, the rest having died of thirst and heat, and he's about to kick off when he finds a strange pool covered with glowing vapours. Corbet drinks from the pool and instantly gains powers and a superhero costume. He uses his powers to kill an attacking tiger, then stops a would-be world conqueror, and then goes on to fight crime and evil and the Germans. He has "neonic" powers, which boil down to glowing, being able to fly, and shooting bolts of energy from his hands.

Neptune Perkins was born a mutant with a severe sodium deficiency which required him to be almost constantly exposed to salt water. He inevitably became a proficient swimmer, able to live entirely in the water if he so chose. In 1942, he began encountering the American mystery men of the All-Star Squadron and in time joined them as one of the Young All-Stars. After the war, he married fellow All-Star Tsunami and took up a career in politics, currently serving on the U.S. Senate. He was thought to have been the father of Tsunami's child, Deep Blue, but it transpired that she had cheated on him with Atlan. Perkins, now divorced from Tsunami, continues his political career.
