After a two year break, Fox Features revived the character of the Green Mask in issue #10 of The Green Mask . In this version, the Green Mask was now secretly Johnny Green, the son of the original Green Mask, whose secret identity had now been changed to Walter Green. Johnny was a teenager who would become an adult when he was very angry. (like Captain Marvel / Hulk cross; but no magic words required) When he's anger sub-sided, he'd change back to plain Johnny Green.

Drawn & possibly written by Chu Hing, the strip had the turtle aiding the Chinese in guerrilla warfare against the Japanese invaders. He was a true mystery man who wore a green cowl and a cloak with a enormous turtle-shell design emblazoned on it. Since readers rarely saw the hero's face-not because of his half-mask, but because he usually kept his back to the viewer. It's possible Hing intended him to be Chinese.

Like many others of the era, Hop was tempted to become a costumed adventurer and took the guise of Guardian Angel for a brief time in 1941 (All-American # 25-28). He soon decided to leave such activities to folks like the Justice Society of America, whom he met later in the year (All-Star Comics # 8). In 1945, Hop had one more dalliance with costumed crime-fighting as the Black Lamp (All-American # 78).
