A blonde super-heroine materializes out of nowhere in response to Jimmy Olsen's wish on a magic Indian totem for a super-girl to appear as a fitting companion for Superman. However she proves more of a hinderance than a help. Ultimately, in a final act of heroism and redemption, she courageously overexposes herself to Kryptonite while saving the life of Superman.

This is from an advert that appeared in WORLD'S FINEST #79 Nov-Dec 1955. Some slight historical interest in her because, as far as I can tell, this is the first actual girl to appear to in a blue-and-red Superman-type costume. ('Super-Sister' was actually Superboy temporarily changed into a girl; Lucy Regent wore an orange/purple outfit; and the various Super Loises were adult women). Also, the word 'Supergirl' doesn't actually appear in the ad, but it's kind of hard to call a six-year old in blue hair bows 'Superman'. (c) Copper
