Year 1939
Publisher Fawcett Publications
Country of origin USA
Captain Thunder was set to make his debut in the January of 1940 issue of Fawcett's 'Flash Comics'. Problems arose, however, when Max Gaine's claim to the title 'Flash Comics' (Jan 1940) beat Fawcett's application to the copyright office by a few days. Not only was there a conflict with the title, but Gaines Flash Comics also had a character called 'Johnny Thunder'. Fawcett had to change both the name of the magazine and its hero. The comic was to have been re-titled 'Thrill Comics', until Fawcett discovered Better publications was releasing 'Thrilling Comics'. After a slight delay, the comic book was renamed 'Whiz Comics' (Feb 1940), in honour of Fawcett's original 'Captain Billy's Whiz-Bang joke Magazine', and the now re-named 'Captain Marvel' made his first appearance in a story drawn by Charles Clarence Beck.

Tootsie was a costumed hero who rights wrongs, with the aid of three boy helpers, Fatso, Fisty and Rollo, who were known as the Secret Legion. Rollo was the leader and whenever danger threatened he'd toot his Tootsie-Tooter, and the blonde Captain would appear.

1st Appearance Gold Medal Comics (One shot)
Year 1945
Publisher Cambridge House / Superior Publishers
Country of origin Canada
Captain Truth is basically Superman crossed with Captain Marvel Jr. with a big floppy Three Musketeers type hat. (Which tends to fly off a lot during this his only adventure) Without benefit of an origin we're introduced to young Ken Elliot who doesn't transform into Captain Truth, Captain Marvel style, he merely changes from his slightly antique looking suit and bow tie to working suit. (Truth wears no mask and naturally no one realizes Ken and Truth are one and the same).

Alan Hale was a fairly typical red, white and blue super-hero. The Morse code symbol for the letter "V" is three dots and a dash, which can easily represent the famous opening notes of Beethoven's 5th (da da da daaaah, da da da daaaah!), and that would certainly fit in with the Captain V's other name, Puppeteer.
