In the 1800's, a group of pioneers entered a secret valley where they settled. Although they appear to have died out, one of their children survived. Mighty Man stood about 15 feet high and possessed incredible strength. Eventually, he submitted to an experiment by Dr. Robert Hilldale which gave him the ability to shrink to the size of a mouse or expand to a hundred or more feet tall. He could also change his features. He eventually teamed up with Super Ann.

Even before getting super-powered, she was passionately devoted to the cause of justice, and didn't mind an occasional fistfight to achieve it ?and she wished she had a man's strength, so she could achieve more. She visited a Professor Lawson, whose was experimenting with electricity. Lawson claimed to have gained awesome power when lightning struck a strange contraption he had built. That night, during a thunderstorm, Madeline tried to duplicate his feat. Lawson found her unconscious and destroyed the device and himself with it. But Madeline recovered quickly, as powerful as she'd hoped, and soon embarked on her career as a scourge of evildoers. Her powers included psionic levitation, and when leaping at the same time she could achieve flight. She had superhuman strength, X-ray vision and heightened intelligence. She was also near-sighted and wore glasses on a regular basis, even in her costumed identity.
