The Eye! This strange being appeared simply as a flaming eyeball in the sky. It could speak and generate deadly rays of heat. It could fly and hover, and materialize just about anywhere. The Eye could expand and shrink and, besides shooting bolts of flame and power rays, it was also capable of projecting a searchlight beam. Although it often operated on its own it also teamed up with a Jack Barrister to fight crime. A symbol of the haunting voice of man's inner conscience!- that all powerful force that causes evil deeds to boomerang and destroy those who plot them! Time or distance means nothing to the Eye, as he wreaks his terrible vengeance in all four corners of the World!

Given a black diamond which was embedded in a ring, by an old magician from the Far East, Jack Lansing found himself able to use it to create constructs formed by his mind. If he wished to strike someone, Lansing just had to envision a boxing glove hitting his opponent. Need a handy jail cell; just think one up, and there would be one surrounding the crooks. He could also use his mystical gem to give him limited flight. (Nothing like the Green Lantern, who appeared the same year.)

Diana, Merzah's assistant, fights alongside Merzah the Mystic. More interestingly, she uses her gun against the enemy. Women packing heat weren't an utter rarity in 1940; the "gun moll" was established in film back in the 1920s, after all. But the idea of the female assistant to the hero not only having a gun, but being willing and able to use it...that's not so common.

Dick Cole is left as an infant orphan at the doorstep of the famous-but-genial Professor Blair of the Farr Military Academy. The Prof decides that he's going to make this child as all-around wonderful as it is possible for man to be. So Dick gets a wealth of training and by his teenage years is super-strong, has great recovery skills, and is a great athlete and acrobat. He uses these abilities to excel at the Academy and to fight crime. Dick Cole also has none of the trappings of either the super-heroes, such as Superman, or the costumed crime fighters, such as Batman. He wears ordinary clothes, and has no costume. He has no secret identity, and no technological gimmicks.
